Plass Recital Series

Plass Recital Series at Saint Andrew’s: Made possible by a grant from the Plass Arts Foundation. These programs are in person, free events.

About the Series:
Dr. Thyra Plass, arts philanthropist and long-time music director at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, is being remembered with a concert series at Saint Andrew’s.

“Dr. Plass was a mentor and colleague who inspired my ministry,” says Dr. Linda Patterson, current director of music at Saint Andrews. “I was pleased to have worked with her on the Diocese of Texas’ Music Commission, and seen her leadership in local arts organizations.  Our new initiative was funded through a grant from the Plass Arts Foundation, and I believe that she would be pleased that we are launching a series in her memory here, at her church.”

Dr. Plass was organist and choir director of Saint Andrew’s from 1971-1989 and served on the Episcopal Diocesan Music Commission. She helped expand musical arts with the merger of two orchestras that became the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra, was a founding member of the Arts Council of the Brazos Valley, the Bach Society, Friends of Chamber Music, and co-founder of the Children’s Symphony Concerts. Part of her legacy at Saint Andrew’s was the renovation of the organ, which will be used for the Plass Series Recitals. Her influence and legacy live on. Both the Plass Arts Foundation and Plass Charitable Trust have continued to support local musical organizations.
